The music of growing up.

Change is inevitable, the sooner one realizes that, the sooner he starts to appreciate change.

It has been about two decades since I landed here on earth and growing up is something everyone has to; people relate to a lot of things over the years, and so do I. The things that I thought were eternal? Well… turned out to be otherwise; the only true eternal entity is change, and it can be seen everywhere around us.

Music has been a great part of my life, and I think it helps me understand myself better. However, the term “Music” itself is very broad and does not convey the hidden implications of the journey one goes through when he listens to some good Music.

It all started when I was around 3-4 years, cognition had started to kick in and I started to wonder as to why listening to some particular songs put me to sleep, while others didn’t. I remember vividly asking my granny and mom about the same, and none of them had any answers.
And, thus began a long journey into a realm, which to date, never ceases to amaze me; music!

Coming to think of it, whatever we hear, is but a perception, our auditory senses have evolved in such as a way as to recognize certain differences in the air pressure around us, and that’s about it.Throw in some random vibrations from different sources and wolla you have some Music. Fascinating isn’t it?

Through the years, I have listened to many many great songs and compositions, and the excitement each time I come across some great music is (More on this coming up!)

The appealing thing about music is that it does not matter at all, whether you understand the lyrics or not, it does not matter if you know the notes or not it does not matter at all if you can sing well, all you need is a pair of ears, and the will to lose yourself into a new dimension. Once you indulge yourself, you must fasten your seatbelt and enjoy the ride thoroughly.

Any sort of music, ranging from devotionals in various Dravidian languages, various cine songs from all over the Indian subcontinent including the different regions in India, Pakistan, to hip-hop and R&B to soul and blues to Reggae and Rock and Metal, just about any sort of music is special and an ocean in it’s own right.

Having said all that, I feel that songs and music from other languages or cultures have this special charm about them. The interpretation of these songs is completely under your control! You never know, that’s the best part, and more often than not you end up judging the sense and the mood of the singer accurately. Ooh… and the joy of finding a word with a common root or a similar meaning, that really is unparalleled! ( But that’s an topic for an other day)

good music can either make you forget everything or remember everything- Anonymous

It’s easy to understand why music has played such a significant role in all of human history.

  • Music is easy to create
  • It comes in all sorts of varieties and styles.
  • You can easily to relate to music and lyrics.
  • It’s universal, and does not need a common language or an identity to enjoy it.
  • It’s an endless ocean and you can never get enough!

As I grew up, a few bands grew up with me, with their ever changing music and a lot more bands had already made most of their music by the time I started to listen to them. Having a band’s music evolve and grow with you is a magical feeling indeed! They are almost like this companion about whom you tend to forget, but they never do.

As the band grows, their music changes. Their ideologies change, the surroundings, the situations, the band members, the main context of the songs, the average tempo, the lyrical creativity, the audience size and everything else changes, but for one small factor. My love for them and their music!

As I grow, I wish to dive deeper, stumble across more awesome music, and one day perhaps, I wish to embark upon a musical journey around the globe 🙂

  1. Great points. I have always found music to be so powerful. It can take me back to a moment in time of great joy, or sorrow. Either way, it moves me to really feel life. What more can you ask for?

  3. great post… as far as I know, the hairs on our hands and legs can work like very specific receiver of vibration or sound of music 🙂 and then wherever the music sounds great to us, we can feel it easily by becoming electrified or the feeling of drowsiness
